I was quite an eventful week for me last week as I was chasing to take photos of the fireworks and YOG 2010. I also went to one of my favourite Japanese Ramen restaurant at Parco Marina Bay.

The ramen shop is called Nantsuttei.

Their ramen is served in creamy pork bone soup. Frankly, their variety is pretty limited, there are only 6 types of ramens. However, their speciality is the floating black garlic oil on the surface of the soup base, making it irresistable.

I ordered Negi Ramen with a generous topping of fresh white shredded green onions and chopped thin green onions.

I decided to try some food photography with my 105mm len.The photo on top is the close up view of the green onions on top of the creamy black oily soup, with an egg at the background.

The next page show some photos that I took with different angle. I like to ask for a favour if you are reading here. Please leave me a comment to let me know which angle looks the best to bring out the taste of the food.

I went to KL last week during the mid-autumn festival… Then, I went for a dining adventure at Sage with family members. Before going, I have no idea what it is serving. I only heard that it is a French-Japanese fusion fine dining restaurant. The only things that I prepared were my camera to take photo and my mouth to eat and taste the food.

Sage at The Gardens, KL

Fresh Bread at Sage

Sage is located at the level 6 of The Gardens at Kuala Lumpur. It is not too difficult to find. Just need to take the elevator next to Isetan and it will take you right up there.

Before selecting your food, we were served with freshly baked bread to go with the some special green sauce.

It serves both ala-carte and also set menu as well. The set menu come with Appetizer, main course and dessert. One of the food that I like most is Foie Gras, or Goose Liver, you can find it at both Appetizer and main course. The food are fresh and I like their seafood in particular, scallop, cod fish and garoupa are nicely done. I like the seafood soup as well, though some people felt that it was too rich, but I just liked the richness as it indeed brought out the fragrance of the sea.

Finally we were served the dessert. Chocolate moose, strawberry, mango sorbet and grape in ice. I heard that the grade is super expensive and specially imported from Japan. If you have are going there, make sure you order that.

I was in Kuala Lumpur 2 days ago. My purpose up there was to attend a ROM ceremony of a good friend. Being a food lover myself, another mission that I have was to hunt for FOOD in KL.

Of course, it was not a disappointed trip. I went to a great place at a narrow alley behind Pudu post office. It is chinese ci ca (煮炒)。From what I understand, the restaurant has operated there for more than 20 years and it is now operated by the 2nd or 3rd generation of the original founder.

Delicious Steamed Egg at Heart of Kuala Lumpur

We tried 4 dishes there, they are steamed egg (Must Try). It is so smooth and soft, with a little minced meat inside. Another dishes are fried eggplant with prawn in belachan, fried sweet potato leaf and steamed fish in ginger sause. The food is not so fancy like those you find in a common restaurant. It is very common and simple dishes. To me, its 古早味 reminded me about food I tasted during my childhood time.

Plus, it is cheap, we had 4 dishes, plus rice plus drink cost only RM41. I am sure you won’t believe you can get this price in KL city.

The location is a bit challenging to find but I am sure it is worth the effort to find it. You won’t regret!!!

But on the Christmas eve, we did prepare some simple dishes and enjoy a Christmas Feast… some salad, bread, cheese, ribs, fruits and wine. It was fun and poor drinker like me turned to bed very fast after 2 glasses of wine.

Anyway, it was an enjoyable time and I enjoyed taking photos and the collage is just a sample to share with you ;-)

Do you like pasta? Have you tried Japanese Pasta?

Well, I went to try the Shokudo Japanese pasta at City Link last week. We tried 4 dishes, pasta, pizza, salad and a soup.

Overall, I like the pasta and pizza, it has its own unique taste compare to the Ang Mo pasta. The pasta was cooked in a cream sause with bacon. There is a half boil egg on top that make the dish very attractive and appetizing.

However, i found the bacon is a bit too salty and the milk favour of the cream sause is too strong for me. As I do not take milk, but I think people who like milk will love it.

The pizza sits on a wooden plate and the thin crust is very crispy. What a coincident that I order a pizza with bacon on top, making it a bit salty like the pasta. Overall, the pizza is very seducing and I will love to try another favor during my next visit.

The salad has a good mix of different vege with different colors. It also contains some raw salmon sashimi, octupus and crab meat making look very Japansese… ;-)

Soup taste nice too, with crab meat on top. Again, it tastes a bit too milky to me only.

If you have not try Shokudo, go try it and I am sure you will fall in love to the unique Japanese presentation of the dish.

I like food and I do enjoy cooking. I was walking in the supermarket and wondering what to cook for dinner. Even though I like to cook but a lazy guy like me hate dish washing. Up to a point that it can be quite annoying to see all the plates piling up in the sink.

So, I like to cook something like “One Pot Cook” (一锅熟）. Cooking everything in the same pot save me time in the preparation and also reduces the numbers of plates to use and to wash ;-)

Fried eggs has always been my choice, nutritious and delicious. I saw some fresh tomoto in the supermarket, that remind me of a dish that I ate somewhere, fried eggs with Tomoto. Then, I also bought some prawn and a water tofu as well.

I decided to throw all these ingredients into one pot and the result was a Fried Eggs with Tomato, Prawn & Tofu. I found it tasting not bad and you might want to give it a try if you are a lazy person like to have “One Pot Cook”.

Here’s how I did that:

1. Wash the prawn and put some pepper to marinate it. (Hehe, I do not need to deshell as I bought a frozen deshell prawn).

2. Cut the water tofu & tomotos into small cubes.

3. Stir and beat the eggs in a bowl. Add some water to it to make the eggs softer.

4. Heat up the wok, add in some cooking oil and some garlic.

5. Put prawns into the work, fried for a short while then followed by putting in the tofu and tomoto cubes in medium heat.

6. Keep stiring the ingredients you see the prawns are cooked.

7. Final step, add in the beaten eggs and let it simmer for a while. Stir it to even till the eggs are evenly cooked.

That’s it. Very simple and nutritional ;-) I think. Lazy people like me, you might want to try it out.
