Busan International Fireworks Festival

End of Sep 2010, I read a travel article about Korea. What caught my attention was there was going to be a Busan International Fireworks Festival at the city of Busan in Korea on 22 & 23 Oct 2010.

I like fireworks pretty much and I like to take photos of fireworks. I had a strong feeling that this is a golden opportunity that I could not miss. I checked out the airfare, I booked the air tickets and hotels. My wife and I flew to Busan on 21 Oct to take photos at the international fireworks festival.

Buildings on Mountainous Terrain at Busan

It was a night flight, I touched down at Busan in the morning. I realized then Busan’s terrain has lots of high mountain. There are lots of tunnels that we passed through and there are lots of apartments and houses builts on the slope of the mountain, making it a very interesting landscape.

I checked in at the hotel near Gwangalli Beach, which is the venue for the Busan International Fireworks Festival. After which, I walked around to familiarize myself with the surroundings. The streets were not very crowded near my hotels, not many cars and therefore it is not noisy. It is pretty quiet and peaceful.

There are also lots of tall apartments buildings in Busan as well.

Of course, I did not forget the purpose of my trip – To Take Fireworks Photos. I also surveyed at Gwangalli Beach to locate the best spot for me to take fireworks photo at night. Then, we headed back to hotel to rest and wait for evening.

Bobby Chen 陳升 Concert at St James Power Station, Singapore

It was a Hari Raya long holiday weekend, I attended a mini concert by Bobby Chen 陳升 at St James Power Station. The venue is a nice small pub and it offers a great chance to get up close with the singer.

Plus, the great thing I like most, they did not restrict photography nor videography… therefore, I can’t help but to snap lots of photos and videos at the concert.

Bobby Chen 陳升 just released a new album < 是的，我在台北> recently. There were new and old albums on sales at the site and you can also get a his autograph at the end of the concert. I could not help to miss that and I bought one album… ;-)

Singapore Night Festival 2010

I was doing some house keeping on my digital photo album and I realized that I have some photos of the Singapore Night Festival not yet processed. Singapore Night Festival is one of my favourite event and it is held at night.

Besides the great live music outdoor performance, the temperature at night is also much lowered compared to day time event, I could then enjoy taking photos without much sweat and perspiring… ;-)

Here’s one of the hip hop dance that I saw @ Singapore Esplanade… I think the group name is “Joyce & The Boys” and they have won some world championship.

I was so impressed with their dance and therefore I decided to take video instead of photos… ;-)

Nantsuttei Ramen

I was quite an eventful week for me last week as I was chasing to take photos of the fireworks and YOG 2010. I also went to one of my favourite Japanese Ramen restaurant at Parco Marina Bay.

The ramen shop is called Nantsuttei.

Their ramen is served in creamy pork bone soup. Frankly, their variety is pretty limited, there are only 6 types of ramens. However, their speciality is the floating black garlic oil on the surface of the soup base, making it irresistable.

I ordered Negi Ramen with a generous topping of fresh white shredded green onions and chopped thin green onions.

I decided to try some food photography with my 105mm len.The photo on top is the close up view of the green onions on top of the creamy black oily soup, with an egg at the background.

Fireworks At Singapore YOG 2010

This is an eventful and spectacular week here in Singapore.

It was the National Day last Monday and there was a NDP Fireworks display at the Marina Bay waterfront area. Then it followed with a series Torch Relay and celebration of first Youth Olympic Games(YOG) that is being held in Singapore now.

It was the opening ceremony of the YOG last night at Singapore Marina Bay waterfront area and there was lots of fireworks display again. I again carried my gear to try my luck shooting at the fireworks again.

Lots of high power spot lights were installed on many buildings in the City, also making it a rare chance to take some new photo that has a new perspective of the city.

Some of the fireworks were light up from top of the buildings… The spot light on top of the new Marina Bay Sands shooting into the smoke cloud left by the fireworks… These are all good opportunity for photography.
